The Queen is the most powerful piece in the game. When used in an attack, it is a formidable force. When attacked by the less powerful pieces, it must often retreat.
1. Queens move on straight lines
The Queen can move any number of squares along its row, its column, or its diagonals. The diagram shows that a Queen in the center of an empty chess board can move to 27 different squares.
The Queen combines the chess moves of the Rook and the Bishop. This makes it the most powerful piece on the board.

2. Queens can't hop over other pieces
The Queen can't hop over other pieces. The diagram shows that the black Queen is blocked by the black Knights, but can capture the white Knights. It can't go further on any of these lines.
