Mumbai Cutting- OSIANS FILM FESTIVAL
Mumbai Cutting was the third Movie which I viewed. The movie explains the different phases of Mumbai City. It is a combined effort of Bollywood top directors.

The 10th Osian’s Cinefan festival in New Delhi was marked by the screening of the film “Mumbai Cutting.” The film has 11 stories about Mumbai and the film shows the city culture .Each story of the film is of about 11 minutes. The films have been directed by Rituparno Ghosh, Anurag Kashyap, Shashank Ghosh, Sudhir Mishra, Revathi, Jahnu Barua, Rahul Dholakia, Ayush Raina, Ruchi Narain, Kundan Shah and Manish Jha.

The film is produced by White Cloud and it is presented by Sahara One Motion Pictures and the stories depict the realities of the city Mumbai.

The metro city that is basically the glamour world of bollywood is just not present in the film that is similar to “Dus Kahaniyaan” because it shows stories with an awaking script and the film also shows those parts of the city that is generally not captured by Indian cinema. The short films of the film ‘Mumbai Cutting’ has excellent performance from the lead actors.

Comments from Cast and Crew:

Director Sudhir Mishra said, “Mumbai Cutting is a movie based on the theme Mumbai and it captures the individual reactions of the directors to the city. The film is an eclectic mix of 11 short films which are completely different from each other.”

Director Revathi said, “I am not from Mumbai but the producer wanted me to direct a film for this movie as I keep fluctuating between Chennai and Mumbai. I have made my film through the eyes of an immigrant. Mumbai Cutting is like a book which has different stories with different moods but Mumbai is the common theme in each of the 11 short films.”

Producer Niyati Shah stressed on the fact that, “each of the 11 scripts are original and written by the directors themselves.”

Director Kundan Shah, senior most on the panel said, “I was extremely exited about the offer made to me to direct a short film for Mumbai Cutting because of its theme which is Mumbai. The producer shared with us the theme and had given us complete freedom to select our subject.”

Mohan Das (OSIAN Film Festival)
Hello Everybody,
"Mohan Das" is the second movie which I have seen on 19th july.

‘Mohandas’ is the story of a man whose identity is stolen and who struggles to prove himself along with the help of a television reporter from New Delhi. Based on the eponymous novel by Uday Prakash, the film is in the backdrop of the coal mines of Madhya Pradesh, and explores the corrupted tapestry of Contemporary India.

Mazhar Kamran, who makes his directorial debut with Mohandas, has previously worked as a cinematographer on movies like ‘Satya’, ‘Kaun”, ‘Masti’ and ‘Jhankaar Beats’. He said “a film is always a director’s baby. The rest of the people are nothing more than contributors or helpers in the process.”

Actor: Nakul Vaid, a popular face on television who has made it big in films with films like Ab Tak 56 and Yatra has played the leading role in the film.

Actress: Sharbani, who made her debut back with Border (1997) plays the role of Kasturi, “My character, Kasturi, symbolizes the strength of rural Indian woman - blunt and matter of fact,” she said talking about her role in the movie.

Conclusion: “”The story was inspiring enough for me to decide that I needed to make this into a film. Issues like commercial viability are important and it is my responsibility to ensure that such a good story is made commercially viable,” said the producer Abha Sonakia.

Comments from Director 'Mazhar Kamran': "There're only two Hindi films in the competitive section. I didn't know how it got selected. I did enter my film. But that's it. Interestingly, I'm a debutant director but my film is in the main section. I like that. I also like the fact that Asian cinema is being celebrated at the Osian film festival."

Would Shahrukh be better choice?

"Mohandas couldn't have been made with Shah Rukh Khan," says the Satya cinematographer Mazhar Kamran, about his debut film that has been selected in the competition section of the Osian film festival which opens in Delhi on July 17. "Some films require an absolutely ordinary man-from-the-crowds face. That's why we have selected Nakul Vaid. He blends into the milieu. Certain subjects should not have a star. In fact a star would've harmed Mohandas. A filmmaker has to be honest to his subject." Mazhar had a tough time finding a producer.

Music for MohanDas: Though Mazhar has made an offbeat film he doesn't disregard the Bollywood formula. "I've songs in Mohandas, though only in the background. Our cinema has such a strong tradition of music and dance." Mazhar is hoping to release the film by October. "I hope the screening in Osian on the 17th will get it noticed."

Osian Film Festival (Kabootar)
Hey Guys!! Recently I went to see Osian Cine Film Festival (OCFF). It was great experience. There I have seen three movies at same day.
Kabootar, Mohan Das and Mumbai Cutting.

Kabootar Review - Exclusive

Produced by Anubhav Sinha, Kabootar was recently screened at Osian's Cine Fan, New Delhi, and won tremendous applause for itself. This writer was amongst the select few invitees who were invited for the film's screening. Directed by debutant Maqbool Khan, the film brings with it some eclectic mix of entertainment and social messaging which reflects the not-so-apparent state of youngsters in small towns.

"In big cities, 'chauraha' (crossroad) is a place from where four roads lead to different destinations. On the other hand, in small towns, 'chauraha' is a place where people from four different destinations meet".

Debutant director Maqbool Khan sets his cards right at the very onset of the film. He doesn't take time in establishing his four characters - Jeetu (Ankur Khanna), Irshaad (Harsh Lunia), Prabal (Vishal Thakkar) and Sharafat (Nikhil Yadav) - all in their teens, who meet in a small town from Rajasthan called Dhaulpur.

Note: It is a true life story of the director "Maqbool Khan", whole star cast was there with the audience and fortunately I was one of those audience. After viewing complete movie I had words with Maqbool and Actors (Both) and congratulated him. Maqbool was there as a character "Jeetu". They received huge round of applause from Audience including some of the directors from JAPAN.
